This striking public art installation by Katrina Palmer pays homage to the sound-mirrors of WW1 and WW2, which were used as early warning systems to detect approaching enemy planes and ships. The concrete structure stands tall on the grassy rise above East Beach at Shoeburyness on the Thames Estuary, facing towards Europe. Its solemn presence is a poignant reminder of the tolls of war and the importance of vigilance.
