Oxararfoss in Thingvellir National Park plunges 44 feet into the Almannagja gorge (marks boundary between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. Thingvellir holds an important place in Icelandic history. The world’s oldest parliament was established here in 930 AD/CE. Events at Thingvellir in the summer of 1000 CE allowed for Christianity to take root in Iceland, with the first church built on site after Christianity’s adoption.
