Rakvere Castle canvas
The Wesenberg Fortress or Rakvere Castle in northern Estonia. It was initially built by the Danish in the 13th-century and changed hands several times thereafter. It was given up at the end of the seventeenth century and badly damaged in the Great Northern War as was the town of Rakvere. After the war's end, the town's population began using the castle as a quarry and purloined much of the moveable rock to rebuild their own homes and destroyed city.
