LNER Papyrus March 1935 Speed Record 105 MPH canvas
A colour artwork depicting the steam locomotive Papyrus, the first steam locomotive to be officially authenticated at a speed of 105 MPH on 5th March 1935.This is the classic image of an LNER A3 Class locomotive. From 1928 to 1936 some A1 and A3 class locomotives had a corridor tender giving the crew access to the locomotive from the train as pictured here on Papyrus. This enabled it to travel from London to Edinburgh in eight hours changing the crew without stopping.
