The towering 175 feet above the 21 century buildings of the SECC buildings, this monument to an earlier century is now preserved for future generations to appreciate. Correctly named the Stobcross crane it first came into service in 1932. Its speciality was large steam locomotives which were designed and built up the hill at St. Rollox in Springburn. They would then be hauled through the city by teams of men, traction engines and horses to be hoisted by the crane and loaded onto a ship.
