Royal Border Bridge canvas
The old Victorian Royal Border Bridge in England at Berwick on Tweed England. The bridge was opened by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert on 29 August 1850. The bridge formed the vital rail link between England and Scotland. Piles for the pier foundations in the riverbed had to penetrate almost 40ft (12m) of dense gravel before reaching bedrock.
