Sound Mirrors canvas
A forerunner of radar, acoustic mirrors were built on the south and northeast coasts of England between about 1916 and the 1930s. The ‘listening ears’ were intended to provide early warning of incoming enemy aircraft. This is a 30ft concave dish mirror at Denge, Kent, UK and was completed in April 1930. Denge is the only place in Britain where all 3 types of sound mirrors can be found on the same site.
