The morning sunshine bursts through the arches of the Colossuem in Rome. The building is the largest amphitheater in the world, estimated to hold 50,000-80,000 spectators, hosting gladiatorial contests and other public spectacles such as mock sea battles. Its construction took 10 years which was completed in 80AD, To celebrate its completion, Emperor Titus ordered the inaugural games in 80AD, lasting 100 days in which an estimated 5000 animals were killed.
