Dazzle Ship (Edmund Gardner) canvas
Using the pilot ship Edmund Gardner as his canvas, Venezuelan artist Carlos Cruz-Diez has responded to the practice of dazzle painting in a new work, co-commissioned by Liverpool Biennial Tate Liverpool and 14-8 NOW World War I Centennary Art Commissions in partnership with Liverpool Merseyside Museum. This work brings the technique back to Liverpool where much of the dazzle painting on ships was undertaken in dry docks such as the Canning Graving Docks, during WWI.
