Reaching the end of the road through Waternish on Skye, you reach a windblown hill and this ruined church. Scene of an outrage when a raiding party of Uist MacDonalds burnt the MacLeod congregation alive inside as an act of revenge of a similar attack on South Uist. Reinforcements from Dunvegan caught the MacDonalds in the bay below and slaughtered them before pushing a stone wall onto the dead. The episode became known as The Spoiling of the Dyke.
