Charles Church was built in 1641, Consecrated in 1665 and completed in 1708. the church was named in honour of King Charles I and ruined by enemy action on 21 March 1941. It was partially restored in 1957 by the City in Co-operation with The Ministry of Works, the idea of restoration having been sponsored by the Old Plymouth Society as a memorial to those citizens of Plymouth who were killed in the Air-Raids in the 1939-1945 war.
