The Fairmile canvas
The Fairmile RML 497 leaving Brixham for Torquay. This Fairmile Class of vessel was built at Southampton for the Royal Navy in 1941 and was commissioned RML 497 in 1942 during WW11. RML stands for - Rescue Motor Launch. This vessel first came to Torbay in 1947 and was used as a ferry between Brixham and Torquay. She was called the Western Lady 111. The boat has now been returned to its wartime colours and plies between Brixham, Torquay and Dartmouth.
