Dustbowl orphan canvas
You can almost hear the romantic strains of "On the Lone Prairie" with this abandoned Canadian prairie farmhouse. I photographed it almost 50 years ago near the village of Ogema, Saskatchewan. With Photoshop, I tried to evoke the dry, dusty and bleak drought conditions of the 1930s Depression. Nostalgia aside, the house stood as a monument to the broken dreams and tragedy that caused its occupants to finally abandon any attempt to scratch out a living.
