The promise of things to come canvas
A metaphor for a never-ending-task is "like painting the Forth Bridge". Since 2002, there has been a programme of repainting with paints which are expected to last 25 to 40 years. The bridge looks pretty ugly at times with large sections covered in huge sheets of plastic. This shot from October 2010 shows the North section which appears to be almost complete and thus free of plastic. Work was completed in December 2011.
