Swans congregate on the River Itchen at Riverside Park in Southampton in the hope of being fed by the people who walk along the river bank. The domesticated mute, or common, swan, Cygnus olor is the species commonly seen in parks. It has an orange bill with a black knob at its base. Swans are the largest members of the duck family Anatidae, and are among the largest flying birds.
