Greyfriars Kirk and Kirkyard in snow, Edinburgh canvas
Greyfriars Kirkyard on Candlemakers Row in Edinburgh Old Town is one of the most visited of Edinburgh’s old graveyards. The grave most visited is that of John Gray, an Edinburgh policeman, who died of tuberculosis in 1858 and was buried here. According to popular legend his dog Bobby, a Skye Terrier, kept watch over the grave of his former master for the following 14 years until the dog's own death in 1872. Greyfriars Bobby has gone down in history as an emblem of devotion and faithfulness.
