The Old Grammar School at Beaumaris 1603 canvas
The Beaumaris Grammar School, also known as The David Hughes School after its founder, commenced its learning for kids in 1603. For much of its time it was a private boys' school and it later became a mixed state-run grammar school only after the passing of the Welsh Intermediate Education Act of 1889. The school, by then run on comprehensive lines, finally closed its doors in 1962, and was replaced by the purpose-built David Hughes Comprehensive School at Menai Bridge
